Benefits of Ylang Ylang Oil


Ylang ylang (pronounced ee-lang ee-lang) essential oil is distilled from the fragrant, mellow yellow flowers of the ylang ylang tree. It has been used in many perfumes including the legendary Chanel No. 5. because of its floral delicate fragrance but is especially famed for it’s calming, aphrodisiac quality.

1. Stress
Absorbing ylang ylang essential oil through the skin may help reduce stress levels, according to a study published in Phytotherapy Research in 2006. In tests on 40 healthy volunteers, researchers determined that ylang ylang essential oil helped promote relaxation and decrease blood pressure. The study also found that ylang ylang essential oil may help improve mood.
2. Skin irritations
A 2017 study on the use of Ylang Ylang oil for the treatment of skin diseases shows that it can be beneficial in curing eczema. It also helps reduce acne, dermatitis and skin irritation by regularizing sebum production and treating the infection itself.
3. High Blood Pressure
A study published in the Journal of Exercise Rehabilitaion 2013 on the effects of Ylang Ylang oil on blood pressure states that the inhalation of Ylang Ylang oil led to a significant decrease in blood pressure. They also reported that the subjects in the Ylang-Ylang oil group rated themselves calmer and more relaxed.
4. Aphrodisiac
Ylang Ylang helps increase the libido of both men and women. Traditionally, petals of the ylang ylang flower were scattered over the beds of newlyweds to celebrate the start of their romantic lives together. Diffusing this in your bedroom is the perfect way to encourage romance.
How to Use It
When combined with a carrier oil (such as jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado), ylang ylang essential oil can be applied directly to the skin. It can also be added to baths. To add to a carrier oil use 10 drops to 20ml. To add to a bath add 5 to 6 drops.
Ylang ylang essential oil also can be inhaled after sprinkling a few drops of the oil onto a cloth or tissue, or by using an aroma diffuser. Depending on the size of your diffuser add between 3 to 6 drops.
